The Drunk Shakespeare Society Brings a Hilarious Holiday Show for One Month Only

Drunk Christmas Carol, presented by the Drunk Shakespeare Society, brings a boozy twist on Charles Dickens’ holiday classic to Chicago for a limited run at The Lion Theatre from Nov. 11, 2026, through Jan. 3, 2027 giving audiences a chance to plan a holiday outing filled with comedy, audience participation and festive cocktails.

One daring actor takes five shots of whiskey before attempting an epic retelling of “A Christmas Carol.” When the holiday season’s most eligible miser is visited by three ghosts, will he change his ways, or get totally scrooged? Chaos, laughter and holiday mayhem ensue as the sober cast tries to keep the story on track, while audience participation and improvisation turn this classic Dickens tale into a tipsy, twisted toast to the season of spirits—both ghostly and alcoholic.

“We’re bringing a little holiday mischief to a story audiences know and love,” said David Hudsom, co-creator of the Drunk Shakespeare Society. “With an unpredictable performance and plenty of opportunities for the audience to join the fun, every night is a different way to celebrate the season.”

Adding to the fun, audiences can sip on festive, holiday-inspired cocktails like The Caroler’s Kiss, Three Spirits Punch, The Sleigh Queen and more—each designed to keep guests feeling merry and bright throughout the show. The themed drinks pair perfectly with the production’s irreverent humor and lively energy.

Craft cocktails and snacks are available for purchase during all performances. Guests can elevate their evening with the North Pole Royalty VIP package, taking a seat on a hand-carved throne and indulging in the society’s finest offerings. The $500 package for two includes a bottle of fine champagne, two hand-crafted cocktails, luxurious holiday treats and the ability to influence the performance.
