Chicago-Made Horror Trivia Game Show 'Better Luck Than Chuck' Spotlights Local Creators, Local Production, & Halloween Season Fun

Created by Chicago-area filmmakers Meredith Tummillo and Tony Wash and filmed locally, the YouTube series blends horror trivia, comedy, character hosts, and a Universal theme park vacation sweepstakes
A new horror-comedy trivia game show created and filmed in the Chicago area is giving genre fans a weekly reason to test their knowledge this Halloween season.
Better Luck Than Chuck, created by Chicago-area filmmakers Meredith Tummillo and Tony Wash, is now streaming free on YouTube, with new episodes released weekly through October. The six-episode series combines horror trivia, comedy, character-hosted game show energy, celebrity guest questions, and prizes built for horror fans.
Hosted by The Widow (Alexis Allotta), the self-proclaimed “Wittiest Witch of the Midwest,” and her sarcastic undead husband Charlie (Adam Michaels), Better Luck Than Chuck follows contestants as they battle through horror-themed “cate-GORY” challenges inspired by the films, monsters, characters, and unforgettable moments that have shaped the genre.
The series was produced independently by Tummillo and Wash and filmed locally, bringing a polished horror game show format to life outside the traditional studio system. Since its launch, the first episode has begun building early viewership on YouTube, topping 240k views and counting as the series continues its weekly rollout.
Adding to the show’s horror credibility, episodes feature special guest question readers from across the genre community, including acclaimed filmmaker Mike Flanagan, producer Chad Villella of Radio Silence, music video and film director BJ McDonnell, and additional surprise guests.
Viewers can also participate throughout the season for the chance to win a Universal theme park vacation to experience Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood or Universal Orlando Resort. Each episode includes a hidden clue that viewers can spot while watching and submit through the show’s official sweepstakes page for that week’s entry.

“Watching the show is only half the fun,” said the Better Luck Than Chuck production team. “We wanted to reward horror fans for paying attention and celebrating the genre with us. Halloween Horror Nights is one of the world’s premier horror events, and we’re thrilled to give one lucky viewer the opportunity to experience it firsthand.”
The show arrives as Chicago media, audiences, and entertainment programs turn their attention toward Halloween programming, local horror stories, and seasonal pop culture. With its Chicago roots, independent production story, character-driven hosts, and fan-facing trivia format, Better Luck Than Chuck gives the local horror community a homegrown series to rally around during the busiest season for the genre.
New episodes of Better Luck Than Chuck stream weekly on YouTube on Thursdays, at 8pm / 7pm CT.
