Freddie Freeman Signs with Dodgers
After 12 MLB seasons with the Atlanta Braves, Freddie Freeman will be in a new uniform this season after agreeing to terms with the Los Angeles Dodgers on a $162 million deal over six years.
Freeman helped the Braves win their first World Series since 1995, taking down the Houston Astros in six games last year. Freeman had another outstanding season in 2012 with 31 home runs, a league-leading 120 runs scored, and a .300 batting average.
A Flurry of 50-Point Games Lighting up NBA Scoreboards.
The NBA has seen spectacular individual scoring performances that have been seen in nearly 60 years. Over March, six different players combined to post eight games of at least 50 points. The first was from LeBron James when he recorded 56 points against the Golden State Warriors on March 5. The top performance of 60 points was by the Nets’ Kyrie Irving, just two days after teammate Kevin Durant dropped 53 points, just a point from a career-high.
The last month with more 50-points games in the NBA was December 1962, when Wilt Chamberlain surpassed 50 points six times, with three more from Lakers star Elgin Baylor.
Claude Giroux Traded to Florida
The Philadelphia Flyers sent longtime captain Claude Giroux to the Florida Panthers for Owen Tippett, a conditional first-round pick in 2024 and a third-round selection in 2023.
Giroux was drafted by the Flyers with the 22nd overall pick in 2006 and recently played his 1000 games with the franchise. Giroux joined only Bobby Clarke as players to appear in at least 1000 games with the Flyers.
Giroux has at least 20 goals in a season six times and led the league with 68 assists in 2017-2018. He was the longest-tenured athlete in Philadelphia before the trade and left Philadelphia with 291 goals and 900 points.
Phil Mickelson is not Playing in Masters.
An official for Augusta National confirmed that for the first time since 1994, Phil Mickelson would not be playing in the Masters, which is set to begin on April 7.
This season would have been the 30th Masters start for Mickelson, who won the title in 2004, 2006, and 2010.
Mickelson, one of the best players in the game’s history world, has won six majors, most recently shocking the golfing world by winning the PGA Championship last year at 50.
Mickelson has also noted that he wants to take a break from golf after apologizing for the controversy surrounding Saudi Arabia and the Super Golf League.
